Norway's second longest fjord – the Hardangerfjord – starts in Sunnhordland. This 179-km-long fjord, often called the "Queen of the Norwegian fjords", also contributes to the distinctive character of the region.
Not far away from Stord island you may explore the deep glacial fissures and blue ice of Folgefonna , Norway's third largest glacier, together with an experienced glacier guide. Folgefonna glacier walk is one of Norway's historical walking routes, and the tour across the dramatic icy element has attracted tourists for over 200 years. Start your glacier experience with a kayaking adventure and paddle your way right up to the magnificent icefall at Møsevassbreen glacier at the southern end of Folgefonna.
