Leave of absence

If you are unable to continue your studies for a period of time, you cannot take an exam, or you would like to pause your studies, you can apply for a leave of absence for one or two semesters.

A leave of absence can be granted upon the documentation of a birth/adoption, illness, national service or demanding position in a student organisation. 

You can also apply for a leave of absence without providing a reason, but this is limited to two semesters within the period of time in which you are studying on one of our programmes of study. 

During your leave of absence, you will not need to register for the semester or pay the semester fee.

How to apply

You must apply before the deadline for semester registration for the semester in question. The deadlines are 1 September in the autumn semester and 1 February in the spring semester.

If a documented need to apply arises after the deadline, for example an illness, it is still possible to apply.
