International Symposium: Movement Quality and Movement Awareness Learning in Physiotherapy and Mental Health

On behalf of Western Norway University of Applied Sciences,  we are happy to invite you to our international symposium on movement quality and movement awareness within physiotherapy in mental health.

State of the Art of Basic Body Awareness Methodology (BBAM) 2003 - 2017

– Education, Research and Clinical implementation

Long-lasting musculoskeletal disorders, mental health problems and psychiatric diseases are leading causes of disability in the society. Physiotherapists have a central role in the treatment of such disorders.

To obtain a positive treatment outcome, it is important for the physiotherapist to understand how life experiences and diseases can create a lack of contact with the body and the self, expressed in human movement and function. As human movement and function is the core of physiotherapy, the Symposium is an opportunity to deepen the understanding of human movement and how to promote movement quality through movment awareness learning.

You will have the possibility to meet 27 graduating students from 15 countries and 4 continents, as well as distinguished international and national scholars and teachers representing a variety of cultures within physiotherapy and mental health.

Through the ERASMUS teacher exchange program, the scholars and teachers have collaborated during the BBAM study program for many years. You will also have the possibility to meet BBAM graduates presenting MSc and PhD projects as well as teaching within the field.

The symposium will be the closing of the BBAM 2015 - 2017 study program.

Aim of the symposium

The aim of the symposium is to review the state of the art of Basic Body Awareness Methoodology (BBAM), the teaching of Basic Body Awareness Therapy (BBAT) principles.
