About the merit scheme
The background to the merit scheme is Stortingsmelding (Government White Paper) 16 (2016-2017), Culture for quality in higher education. The aim of introducing a merit system at HVL is to stimulate increased teaching quality and to give educational competence an increased status.

Collaboration and sharing
HVL has been inspired by, collaborated with and shared experiences with other educational institutions that have introduced merit schemes. Through participation in a national merit scheme network, we have developed our merit scheme in accordance with practice and experiences from other HE institutions. We would especially like to extend our thanks to Hilde Larsen Damsgaard at USN, who has shared her own experience and knowledge in addition to sharing templates and other material to support the application and assessment process.
Sharing of templates
Merit scheme assessment form
This form is based on a corresponding template at USN. A similar form was used for the assessment of applications received in response to the call for applications in 2021-22. This version has been adapted to the criteria for 2023 and will be used by the committee when assessing applications following this year's call.

Bente Olderkjær at ALU has developed a form that provides an overview of the assessments made by members of an assessment committee and given to applicants on the various criteria and sub-criteria. The overview form was used in the merit assessment process at HVL in 2022. The template for the form has been shared via DL

Pedagogical academy
A number of the institutions with whom we collaborate have established or are planning to establish pedagogical academies where merited educators can develop their own educational expertise, but also contribute to collegial knowledge sharing and transfer of experience to others. A collaborative forum of this kind is currently being tested at HVL, and will be considered for permanent introduction after implementation and evaluation of the second call for applications in 2023. HVL is proud of its merited educators and looks forward to more people applying for the scheme and contributing to increased educational quality and increased status for educational competence.
