Merited educators
The merit scheme at HVL was announced for the first time in the spring of 2021. Upon expiry of the application deadline on 1st October 2021, there were twenty-one applicants. Of these, five applicants were granted status as merited educators in 2022.

‘Merited status criteria’ 2021-22
The following is drawn from the Merited status criteria which were valid for the call for applications in 2021-22. Note that the criteria have been adjusted for the 2023 call for applications:
“Merited teaching status may be awarded to employees in educational positions who have shown significant efforts to ensure educational quality in the broadest sense. In order to achieve the status of merited educator, you must document that you have a systematic and scientific approach to teaching, a focus on student learning, a collegial attitude with a focus on sharing experience, and have developed a pedagogical philosophy over time.
To be granted merited educator status, applicants must demonstrate particularly good theoretical understanding and practice within the following three areas:
- a focus on students' learning in the planning, implementation and assessment of their own teaching
- a systematic, research-based and scientific approach to teaching practice over time
- a collegial attitude and practice with a focus on sharing experience related to teaching and learning management"
Reward
The five who were awarded the status of merited educators in 2022 received an individual reward of two salary steps each, while the merited educational environment received a lump sum of NOK 100,000 for further development of educational quality.

The merited educators presented experiences from their own teaching practice at the HVL conference on 25th October 2022, where student engagement was the topic in question.
