Exploratory talk is characterized by open, authentic questions, non-evaluating responses, and follow-up questions and comments
Exploratory conversations are often seen in contrast to what is labelled an IRE-conversation. IRE conversations have the set structure of an initiative taken by the teacher; a response given by the child and an evaluation of the response again given by the teacher.
