PhD Candidate

Michael André Helnes Mortensen

Field of work

I am a dedicated researcher and university lecturer with extensive international experience after living and studying in France, Catalonia, and Switzerland. These experiences have significantly enriched my academic and professional career. Since 2021, I have been a PhD candidate, focusing on rehabilitation and return to work after cardiac surgery. My work examines how healthcare system structures support patients' reintegration into the workforce and addresses the psychosocial and physical aspects of the rehabilitation process.

International Experience and Responsibilities:

As a dedicated proponent of internationalization in health education and research, I am the International Coordinator for the Intensive Care Program at HVL. I have established an exchange program between Charles University in Prague and HVL for students and teachers. From July 1, 2024, I will be on a stay abroad at Curtin University in Perth, Australia, where I will continue my work and research collaboration.

Simulation-based Education:

I am also actively engaged as a simulation facilitator, using advanced simulation methods to improve learning outcomes for students at HVL. This role involves designing and implementing realistic scenarios that prepare students for complex and critical situations in their clinical practice, enhancing their decision-making and teamwork under pressure.
