Associate Professor

Burcu Peksevgen

Field of work

I am an associate professor in marketing and communication studies. I completed my Ph.D. in Journalism at Marmara University, Istanbul, Turkey, with a focus on popular culture and media. My doctoral thesis, "Popular Culture and  Hayat Magazine," delves into the emergence of American popular culture in Turkey through the analysis of the country's renowned magazine, Hayat.
I hold a DEA degree in Communication from Galatasaray University, where the language of instruction is French, and an MBA (without thesis) from Marmara Contemporary Science Foundation. I began my academic journey with a Bachelor's degree in Radio-Television & Cinema from Marmara University.
Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a commitment to both academic excellence and practical application. I have taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses at Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Volda University College, and currently at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. The courses I thought span various subjects, including marketing, intercultural communication, communication theories, workplace communication, risk communication, branding and consumer psychology. My teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of engaging students as active discoverers and constructors of their own knowledge. I believe in a holistic learning paradigm where each student is unique and requires tailored teaching strategies. This approach has enabled me to adapt my teaching methods to the size and dynamics of each class, ensuring that all students are motivated and engaged.
I contributed to the field with numerous publications in international refereed journals and books. I am curretly particularly interested in workplace communication. I have led and participated in many research projects, problematizing various issues related to media and communication from multiple theoretical and methodological perspectives.
