Use of Lingdys in School Exams

Information on how to use the reading and writing support program Lingdys in exams

You should use your own computer and a downloaded version or the web version of Word during the exam. As a student at HVL, you can download Word and other Office programs for free.

You will use your own license for the reading and writing support program Lingdys during the exam. You can apply for this from the NAV assistive technology center. Make sure to install the program and become familiar with how to use it before the exam.

You also need to bring your own headphones.

You are not allowed to have other websites, programs, or files open during the exam other than WISEflow and Word. Turn off messenger and other tools that may pop up. Communication is prohibited.

Contact the exam invigilator if you need help during the exam.

How to use Lingdys and Word in FLOWlock exams

FLOWlock has this symbol in WISEflow:

Log in to the internet, reading and writing support program, and WISEflow:

  • Internet (Eduroam) with username STUDENTNUMBER@stud.hvl.no and your Feide password
  • Reading and writing support program with your Feide account (student number and password)
  • WISEflow with your Feide account (student number and password)

When the exam begins, you must start the Device Monitor to access the exam questions in WISEflow. Enter the password provided by the exam invigilator if necessary. Use Word and the reading and writing support program to answer the exam. Save as PDF, upload your answer, and submit it in WISEflow before the deadline.

You can use a webcam if you want to take pictures of sketches or calculations on paper. Use the "Camera" on your computer to insert the image into your Word document. If you have borrowed a computer, you must delete the image from the computer before returning it.

How to use Lingdys and Word in FLOWmulti exams

You must have Google Chrome installed on your computer. You can do this via kiosken.hvl.no. . Log in with your HVL Feide user. You open the exam in WISEflow, and it is available in your browser during the exam, so you must ensure that Lingdys is enabled in Chrome. By highlighting the text on the web pages, you can have it read aloud in Lingdys.

How to activate Lingdys in Google Chrome

When you install Lingdys and open Google Chrome, you must accept the "Lingit Chrome Extension" add-on. When you open the Chrome browser, you should have a small Lingit icon to the right of the search field in Chrome. If it is added and active, you can use reading and writing support in Chrome.

  • If you do not have the Lingit icon in Chrome:
    • Click on: "Customize and control Google Chrome (three dots in the upper right)"."More tools" and then "Extensions". Find "Lingit Chrome Extension" and activate the extension.
    • You should then see the small Lingit icon in the upper right corner of the Chrome browser, next to a small puzzle piece. Click on the puzzle piece and then the pushpin next to Lingit Chrome Extension. This will pin the extension in the Chrome browser so it does not disappear.
  • If you cannot find Lingit Chrome Extension in "Extensions":
    • Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for Lingit or Lingdys for Chrome.
    • Select "Add to Chrome". You need to restart Chrome after the extension is added.
    • Now you should see the small Lingit icon in the upper right corner of the Chrome browser, next to a small puzzle piece.
    • Click on the puzzle piece and then the pushpin next to Lingit Chrome Extension. This will pin the extension in your Chrome browser so it does not disappear.

How to use only Word in FLOWmulti exams

You open the exam in WISEflow, and it is available in your browser during the exam. You can then use Word to have the text read aloud and perform spell check.
To have the text read aloud, you must first copy the text you want to be read from the FLOWmulti interface and paste it into a Word document.
The text written in Word must be copied into WISEflow before you submit your answer. You can continuously copy the text you write in Word into WISEflow during the exam.
