Registering for and withdrawing from exams

The deadlines are 1 September for the autumn semester and 1 February for the spring semester. For studies with a start date that is different to the usual start date of the course, the deadline will be 14 days after the date on which the studies commenced. Registration for resit exams at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences is 3 weeks before the date of the exam.

By approving your individual education plan for a semester, you sign up for teaching and exams in the course that is included in your plan.

You can find your registrations under “Active courses” in Studentweb. You are personally responsible for checking that all the registrations are in place, and that they are correct. 

If you want to sign up to courses that are not included in your individual education plan, or to programmes that are not part of your individual education plan, you do this in Studentweb under “Active courses”. You can search for the course or courses to which you want to sign up.

Withdrawing

You can withdraw from an exam up to 14 days before the date of the exam. You do this in Studentweb by going into that course in “Active courses” and clicking on “Withdraw from assessment”.

You have three examination attempts for each exam. If you do not withdraw by the deadline, and do not attend the exam, this will count as one attempt.

In special cases, following a documented application, a fourth attempt may be granted, cf. Regulations relating to studies and examinations at the Western Norway University. Applications should be sent to post@hvl.no.

Exams in discontinued courses

When a course is discontinued and the last ordinary exam has been held, up to two exams may be arranged during the subsequent two semesters for students who have not achieved a pass. If a new exam is arranged, it is defined as one of the two exams that can be arranged.

Examination candidates who meet the requirements to register for examination in a discontinued course must apply to take the exam at the latest by 1 September in the autumn semester or 1 February in the spring semester, cf. Regulations relating to studies and exams. If you cannot find the course in Studentweb, you must send an email to eksamen@hvl.no in order to register.
