University of Applied Sciences Mittweida
The University of Applied Sciences Mittweida was founded in 1867, as a technical trade school. Today it is attended by about 7000 students. The university has 5 faculties and offers several different study programmes at all levels. These studies have both a theoretical and a strong practical orientation. The school emphasises active cooperation with local, national and international businesses and traineeships.
Since its establishment, Mittweida has maintained a strong focus on internationalisation. In its first decade, more than half of the students were from countries other than Germany.
The city (or town) of Mittweida is located in the eastern part of Germany, about 50 km from Dresden. The city’s history can be traced back to the 13th century, and today has about 15,000 inhabitants.
Erasmus+
This is an Erasmus + agreement. As an Erasmus student, you will be participating in the world’s largest exchange programme and can study at good European universities without paying tuition. Through Erasmus+, you will be given an extra grant that provides more money to enjoy your stay.
Languages
Certain modules are in English, but most ordinary study programmes are taught in German. The language requirement for exchange students is a B1 level for both German and English.
Everyone participating in an Erasmus+ exchange programme must take an online language test online before they travel, and they will be given access to a language course through this service. The Division of Research, Internationalisation and Innovation (AFII) will inform you of this test in advance.
If you can document that part of the study takes place in German, you may receive a grant from the State Educational Loan Fund, Norway for a 4-week language course to be taken in Germany prior to the start of the semester.
Mittweida also offers language courses in basic German for exchange students.
Fee
You will not be paying tuition at this institution and will receive the Erasmus+ grant in addition to a grant from the State Educational Loan Fund, Norway. You will receive the same financial support from the State Educational Loan Fund, Norway as for studies in Norway, in addition to a travel grant. You must pay a semester fee to HVL in order to receive a loan and grant from the State Educational Loan Fund, Norway during the exchange period.
Course approval
In order to apply for a student exchange programme, your application must first be approved by the study programme of your faculty. An approved application means that you have been given an academic pre-approval for the course or traineeship you will be doing abroad. The academic pre-approval specifies what you will be doing while you are on an exchange programme and confirms these activities will be fully approved as part of your education plan at HVL.
What can I study?
Bachelor's programme in Computing
If you are fluent in German, it is possible to do an exchange programme to this institution in the 5th and 6th semesters. If you must study in English, you may do an exchange programme here in the 6th semester and take classes and do your main project.
If you choose to do the exchange programme in the 6th semester, please note that it may take longer than usual to obtain your transcripts from HVL. This is because the partner institution may in some cases have a longer processing time for grading. If you wish to apply for master’s level studies at other institutions in Norway, you should do your exchange programme earlier in your studies. Contact the academic contact person for more information.
