Doctoral Degree Award Ceremony
The doctoral degree award ceremony at HVL is an annual ceremony, where last year’s conferred doctors at HVL are celebrated in a solemn ceremony.
The next doctoral degree awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 19 September 2024. The programme will be published in due time. The ceremony will take place in the auditorium Mimes Brønn, campus Bergen, and is followed by a reception.
Information to the audience
All staff and students are warmly welcome to the doctoral degree award ceremony in Mimes Brønn.
The program offers varied cultural elements of high quality, and speaks in addition to the actual diploma presentation.
Please show up in good time, and be there no later than 12:45 PM
The ceremony starts at 1:00 PM, and will last approximately 1.5 hours.
After the ceremony, a reception will be held in the Global Lounge. This reception is for the doctors and invited guests only.
For those who do not have the opportunity to be physically present, feel free to follow the ceremony on stream.

Who is the doctoral degree awards ceremony for?
The doctoral degree awards ceremony at HVL is arranged annually at campus Bergen. The ceremony is for the conferred doctors (since last ceremony). New doctors will get an invitation well in advance of the ceremony. The invitation is sent by e-mail.
Does it cost anything?
Taking part in the doctoral degree awards ceremony and the following reception is free of charge for both doctors and guests.
Rehearsal before the ceremony
The doctoral degree awards ceremony is a quite complicated ceremony, with a procession, reserved seats and handing out the diploma in a certain order. Due to this, you need to take part in an information meeting and a rehearsal before the ceremony (on the same day). You will be informed about the time and place.
Can I bring family and friends?
You can register up to three guests in an online invitation form, which will be sent to you in advance.
Will my supervisors be invited?
Supervisors will receive a separate invitation from HVL.
Photographing
Guests are allowed to take photos during the ceremony. The use of flashes should be limited to a minimum. HVL have their own photographer who will take photos during the ceremony, and also individually of each doctor receiving the diploma. A group photo of all ceremony participants will be taken after the ceremony. The photo will be available online after the ceremony.
Streaming
The ceremony will be streamed to enable family and friends to follow digitally.
For how long does it last?
The ceremony will last for about 1,5 hours. After the ceremony, there will be a photo session followed by a reception with light dishes for all invited guests.
Dress code
During the ceremony the senior management of HVL will wear gowns. The doctors should dress formally.
Doctoral diploma
The doctoral diplomas will be handed out during the ceremony. If you cannot be present at the ceremony, the diploma will be sent by mail.
Portrait picture
Candidates who cannot be physically present will be presented on screen.
We therefore ask you to send us a portrait picture if you cannot be present at the ceremony.
