Title: "Evidence-based Practice: Research-Informed Interpretation"
Abstract
In this talk I will look at the history of sign language interpreting, often hidden in the archival record, that shows how long there have been interpreters (both deaf and hearing) and explores the relationship between interpreters and deaf people and communities. I will then consider the values and ethics that deaf communities often espouse including traditional interpreting norms, languaging as a cooperative practice, and expectations of interpreters in 21st century settings and practice.
