Norse Impact - Integrated digital services in mental health field

Mental health problems are an important challenge for public health and productivity in Western societies. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that we lose 50 million working years annually due to anxiety and depression. The traditional ways of delivering treatment, based on face-to-face interactions, are not in themselves viable in the future. We also need innovative technology to help people with mental health problems and substance abuse problems improve.

Patients and therapists emphasize the need for personalized digital interventions. Norse Impact is a research and innovation project funded by the Research Council of Norway's Pilot Health program.

The consortium behind Norse Impact will research and develop accessible, safe and useful digital health technology to improve treatment.

Digital tools must be available to doctors for patients outside of primary care physical treatment meetings - before, during and after treatment. Norse Impact will use patient-reported data to deliver personalized digital tools to patients to improve the effect of the treatments they are part of.

During the first year, we will start the development of the safe and user-friendly technology and launch collaborative research projects with two young patient groups: one group at risk of psychosis and one who abuses drugs. These groups are particularly important to engage in treatment and important for Norse Impact as proof-of-concept.

This is what future health services look like: an integrated service flow that includes traditional physical meetings, digital treatment resources and user-controlled parts, all personalized to the patient's own self-reported data.
