The program equips you with the knowledge and skills required of leaders in today’s workforce, characterized by high demands for adaptability and efficiency. It provides a solid understanding of the challenges and opportunities within leadership roles.

The one-year program in Administration and Leadership is suitable both for those taking their first steps toward becoming a leader and for those already in leadership roles who wish to formalize their work experience.

This is a comprehensive leadership education based on research and key theories across various disciplines. Through the program, you will learn how to influence the quality of employees' work and how to contribute effectively to strengthening your organization’s competitive edge.

For those aiming to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Administration at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, the one-year program can count as 60 of the 180 credits required for the degree.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge
Upon completing the one-year program, the student possesses knowledge of:

  • Theories about how organizations are structured, how they function, and how to contribute to the development and transformation of an organization.
  • Personnel management and employee development.
  • Issues related to psychology in organizations and leadership.
  • How enterprises operate ethically to safeguard their stakeholders while promoting the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Digital work methods in organizations.
  • How markets function, how consumers and producers make decisions, and how these are influenced by their environment.
  • Key topics in business strategy, including related processes and strategic decisions.

Skills
Upon completing the one-year program, the student can:

  • Identify, analyze, and reflect on issues within administration and management at the individual, group, and organizational levels.
  • Communicate the content of analyses, methodological choices, results, and assumptions both orally and in writing.
  • Collect, organize, and evaluate relevant information to solve practical problems within administration and management, both generally and specifically in relation to the individual subjects of the one-year program.
  • Contribute to integrating responsibility and sustainability considerations into the business models and practices of enterprises.

General Competence
Upon completing the one-year program, the student:

  • Has knowledge of relevant professional and ethical issues within organization and leadership.
  • Can present central leadership theories, organizational challenges, and solutions in writing.
  • Demonstrates an ability for responsibility, critical thinking, and ethical reflection.

Content

The program is a full-time study. Some courses may be delivered through session-based teaching. For certain courses, parts of the content may be presented digitally, but the majority of the teaching and sessions will take place physically on campus in Haugesund.

The program includes a broad range of administrative subjects such as leadership, organizational theory, marketing, and business strategy.

Teaching

We offer lectures, discussions, and seminars on campus in Haugesund. Students work on assignments both individually and in groups.
