ABLU-LSU Management, Cooperation and Development Work

Course description for academic year 2017/2018

Contents and structure

 The overall aim of this area of knowledge is to strengthen the student's knowledge about the kindergarten as an organisation, as well as knowledge, skills and competence in important aspect's of management, collaboration and development tasks in the kindergarten.

The content of this area is based on the insight, experience and competence the student has acquired in these areas in the first two years of the study.

 

The content of the area of management, collaboration and development work is made up of material from the subjects education and social science. The tuition is organised into equal value:

  • educational leadership, personnel management and communication
  • the kindergarten as a learning organisation.
  • research, change and development work in the kindergarten
  • formal and informal aspects of day care institutions
  • organizational behavior and decision making
  • collaboration in the kindergarten and collaboration with the home and external bodies

 

Consistent themes for all the areas of knowledge in the course of study are:

  • educational management
  • diversity and equality
  • the youngest children
  • child's involvement
  • didactics

 

Practice in the area of knowledge

15 days autumn

The content and tasks of practice must be in line with the learning outcome of the area of knowledge.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

After completing the subject, the student will have:

  • knowledge about the kindergarten's history, culture and characteristics, laws, governing documents and international conventions.
  • knowledge about relevant research, methods and tools as a basis for management and development work.
  • knowledge about management and guidance of people from different backgrounds and circumstances
  • knowledge about power, involvement, diversity and equality in democratic processes in the kindergarten
  • knowledge about collaboration processes between children, parents and personnel
  • knowledge about organisation and management

Skills:

After completing the subject, the student will:

  • be able to show independence in leading guidance and collaboration processes in development work and educational work with children, personnel and parents
  • be able to use relevant professional research in the development of the kindergarten and the profession of kindergarten teacher
  • be able to plan, justify, implement, document and evaluate educational work, both alone and together with others
  • be able to use suitable methods and tools when working on development and learning processes
  • be able to reflect on his or her own and the kindergarten's practice in work on the further development of the role of the kindergarten and professional ethics

General competence:

After completing the subject, the student will:

  • be able to lead educational and organizational work and take decisions that lead to the development of the kindergarten's practice
  • have relational understanding and competence and master communication with children, parents and personnel
  • be able to maintain constructive dialogue with the home and with external partners
  • be able to see how structural and cultural conditions form a framework for management and development work
  • be able to identify areas that need development work and further evaluate what management action is needed in order to realise the desired development

Entry requirements

Passed practice in the first two study years and all subjects in the first study year.

Teaching methods

In their work with material in the area of knowledge, students must actively participate in various teaching and learning activities. The working methods will vary between lectures, online teaching, work in seminars and small groups, practice, projects and guidance. Individual study will also be required for selected parts of the syllabus.

Compulsory learning activities

80% participation in teaching (practical and theoretical).
