DRA304 Theatre history and theatre production
Course description for academic year 2017/2018
Contents and structure
This is the second module in the spring semester. Focus is on a bildung perspective in drama and theatre production. Actor training and working on scripts are central.
The module is open for exchange students. An additional 5-credit unit in Process drama will be offered to fulfill the requirements for a three-month exchange study.
The module introduces theatre history with a special focus on theatre and traditions in Ancient Greece.
Actor training, script work, production and drama educational work will be central. Theatre and drama as formation will be an underlying focus throughout the module.
Learning Outcome
At the end of the module the candidate has obtained knowledge of:
- Theatre history with a special focus on theatre in Ancient Greece
- Dramatic means of expression
At the end of the module the candidate can:
- Make use of a variety of bodily and oral expressions
- Make use of theatrical means of expression
At the end of the study the candidate can:
- Play a role and be part of an ensemble
Teaching methods
Scenic production through individual, group and full class work, accessing theatre, workshops, lectures and tutorials.
Compulsory learning activities
- Attendance - minimum 80% of the classes.
- A written analysis connected to the theatre in Ancient Greece. 1500 words.
Assessment
Practical exam. Based on a play from Ancient Greece, the class produces a performance. The exam is the presentation of this performance.
The class will get a collective mark where the production as a whole is assessed. This mark counts for 45% of the final mark. Additionally, each candidate will be marked individually based on acting skills. This mark counts for 55% of the final mark.
Time and place for the exam is announced on Itslearning.
Mark scale: A-F.
New/postponed practical exam will be performed individually.

The students are free to use costumes, props, light and sound.
