Course description for academic year 2017/2018

Contents and structure

PLC (programmable logic controller ) program code intruduction, ladder diagram, structured text (ST) and sequential function chart (SFC).

Learning Outcome

-Knowledge:

The student

  • Can explain the concept of programmable logic controllers and their application.

-Skills:

The student

  • Can read a control current  form and implement a PLC code that corresponds to the logic of the control current form.
  • Can connect motors to the main current form and is able to connect  logic controllers driven by relays and contactors.
  • Can use PC software to design PLS-code in form of ladder(LD),function block (FB), structured text (ST) and sequential functional charts (SFC) to solve a given control problem.

-General qualifications:

  • The Student has basic knowledge of PLC programming.

None.

Teaching methods

Lectures and laboratory exercises.

The course is taught for the first time at HVL - Campus Haugesund in the autumn of 2017. Earlier years the subject has been taught with the assistance of the University of Stavanger.

Compulsory learning activities

Yes, laboratory tasks must be approved 3 weeks before exam.

Assessment

Written exam, 4 hours.

Grade:  A - E / passed;  F / failed.

Examination support material

The University College's calculator (Casio fx-82Es) will be handed out during the exam.
