Course description for academic year 2017/2018
Contents and structure
Pipe construction, conditions and criteria, laws, regulations, standards, petroleum industry standards, pipe calculation and calculation of parts of pipes regarding to pressure. Structural engineering calculation of pipes and details, unit load method, calculation standards (TBK5, ASME, ISO, ANSI, DIN, NORSOK, NS), permitted loads, methods to handle stress and deformation in pipes. Isometric drawings of pipe systems ( manual and CAD), expansion, flexibility and supports, support calculation.
3D modelling, expansions components, valves.
Stress analysis of pipe systems.
Design methods in the construction phase of prefab to MC/commissioning.
Introduction to pipe spec.

- Knows different norm of calculation, production methods and drawing principals.
- Can explain the production process from prefab to MC / commissioning.
- Can explain the unit load method for stress calculation of pipe systems.
- Has broad knowledge of regulations and laws in the petroleum industry.
- Knows stress analysis and can use the calculation program.
- Can explain construction details that are part of the pipe design.
- Has basic knowledge of structural design philosophy and geometry of design.

- Can design, dimensioning of design and practical application of piping systems with components of pipe and valves.
- Can create isometric drawings of pipes with CAD systems.
- Can create pipeline drawings and calculate constrains.

Recommended previous knowledge
Materials and Manufacturing; Mechanical Design I; Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics.
Based on knowledge of ANSYS and SAP2000, which is taught in Mechanical Design II

Lectures, self study and exercises.

Yes, course requirements specified in the curriculum at semester beginning.
Assessment
Part 1: Written exam, 3 hours, accounts for 50 % of the final grade.
Part 2: Portfolio, accounts for 50 % of the final grade.
Both parts must be passed.
Grade: A - E / passed; F / failed.

Written exam: The University College¿s calculator (Casio fx-82Es), Teknisk formelsamling (Pedersen, Gustavsen, Kaasa og Olsen) will be handed out during the exam.
