Contents and structure

Course description: The contents of the subject is related to automation and control systems, mathematical modelling and simulation, state space analysis, transferfunctions, analysis of frequency responce, stabilityanalysis and tuning of standard controllers (P, PI, PID)

Course content: Introduction to mathematical modelling and simulation, state space analysis, block diagrams, transferfunctions, analysis of frequency respoence, stability analysis, standard controllers (P, PI, PID) and feedback systems.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

  • To understand the concept of mathematical modelling and simulation as well as feedback systems
  • To understand how a control system works, and how a PID-controller can be used to control process variables

Skills:

  • Be able to set up state space models and perform linearization.
  • To represent mathematical models using block diagrams
  • To find transfer functions, and perform frequency responce based analysis on models.
  • To perform stability checks and tune standard controllers (P, PI, PID).
  • Be able run simulations on mathematical models in Matlab/Simulink

General qualification:

  • After completing this subject, the student will have established a fundamental understanding of system behavior and control systems
