ING3112 Project Work in Interdisciplinary Teams
Course description for academic year 2017/2018
Contents and structure
The course prepares students to participate in interdisciplinary teams solving common problems and tasks. The method emphasizes on the establishing and specifying the management of project work and the conditions that have to be satisfied in order to succeed in the actual implementation.
As introduction some fundamental terms, methods and considerations regarding to establishment and implementation of project work are made, followed by a description of teamwork, focusing on team roles and how these roles affect the team's work.
Students are divided in groups to solve problems together, including an assessment project and small practical exercises. During the course, the students will take a test that indicates strengths and potentials of their group. Each student will also be given an individual feedback, which is confidential and only meant for the personal development of that particular student.

The student:

- Can participate constructively in team work, knows his/her competences and how to compensate deficiencies.
- Is able to present solutions in a clear and understandable way to persons who do not have special knowledge in the field.
- Is able to assess the combination of a team and suggest how the team will be strengthened and balanced.
The student:
- Knows that effective solutions require cooperation and efforts across disciplines.
- Knows that effective solutions have to satisfy social, environmental, economical and technical operating parameters.

Recommended previous knowledge
Good professional background in the field. Should be completed in the final semester of a Bachelor's degree.
Teaching methods
Lectures, case-based tasks, teamwork.
Regular lectures, exercises, laboratory work and similar activities will be given every third week. During the two weeks where there is no regular teaching, the students are expected to work on the subject by themselves or in teams and to follow course material that is made available online.
In special cases instruction will be given by an English speaking lecturer/guest lecturer. The exam will still be given in Norwegian.
Parts of the course might be given in Haugesund.

Assessment
Portfolio.
Grade: A - E / passed; F / failed.
Portfolio with group assignments handed in during the semester, and individual written test.
