MMO5003 Modern ship design: Safety, Limitations and Hazards
Course description for academic year 2017/2018
Contents and structure
The course emphasize the value of mental rather than numeric understanding of the physics governing the safety of the ship. One will use dedicated robots as tool for this part of the course.
SOLAS regulations regarding ship stability, fire protection, and fire extinguishing will be discussed. Modern stability booklets and accident reports will be used as tools for this part of the course.
The natural implementation of physical Achilles heels into ISM documentation will be discussed.
The course will use real cases as introduction to the various physical aspects.
