PSYK6104 Mental Health Work and Relationship Competence from a User Perspective

Course description for academic year 2017/2018

Contents and structure

The course centers on knowledge of the significance of relations and different therapeutical approaches, focusing on different models promoting care and health. Furthermore, the course emphasises knowledge and critical evaluation regarding different framework conditions for practising mental health work, reflection on one¿s own role concerning interaction with users, and a persistent awareness about conditions that promote and hold back client participation.

Learning Outcome

  • has comprehensive knowledge of client participation, including how to be empathic to the experiences, convictions and conceptions of the users
  • has comprehensive knowledge of different therapeutical approaches that are relevant for different clinical situations and contexts
  • has comprehensive knowledge of care models that are relevant for mental health work
  • has comprehensive knowledge of health promoting models that are relevant for mental health work

  • is able to reflect on one¿s own role and professional practise in cooperation with users, next of kin and other skilled personnel
  • is able to employ and critically assess different therapeutical approaches in mental health work
  • is able to employ legal and work ethical guidelines in practising mental health work
  • is able to critically assess the framework conditions for the practise of mental health work in terms of its different settings

  • is able to analyse and assess theories of health and care on a high level
  • is abel to critically assess which conditions that promote client participation, coping and empowerment

PSYK6002 Organisation of Services for People with Mental Illness and the Professional Foundation and PSYK6003 Development and Practise of Mental Health Work: Communication, Cooperation and Conflict Management.
