Contents and structure

Socialisation and identity development in child and youth culture are key elements.

The course focuses on collaboration with parents and bodies external to the school, including to prevent drop-outs.

The course includes special needs education topics relating to pupils with impaired functional abilities and pupils in difficult situations.

The same applies to Sami culture and the rights of Sami pupils as well as situations relating to multicultural pupils.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

•  Has knowledge about children and youth in difficult situations, including knowledge about violence and sexual abuse, and about the rights of children and youth in a national and international perspective
• Has broad knowledge of child and youth culture and child and youth development and learning in different social and cultural contexts

Skills:

• Can plan, implement and reflect on teaching based on research and development work and experience-based knowledge
• Can identify special needs in children and youth, including identify signs of violence or sexual abuse. The graduate shall be able to use their professional assessments to quickly implement necessary measures  

General competence:

• Can convey pedagogical and didactic issues at an advanced level
• Has a professional attitude and can critically reflect on disciplinary issues, professional ethics and disciplinary and educational policy questions
• Can develop their own competency with a great degree of independence and can contribute to the development of colleagues and the school
• Can build relationships with pupils and their guardians, and collaborate with actors relevant to the school system

Teaching methods

Teaching is group-based and will be given in large and small groups. Guidance and follow-up will be given individually and to some extent in small groups.

Compulsory learning activities

Participation in 5 out of 6 assembly days.
