Contents and structure

Problem behaviour

In this subject the student will gain an insight into issues that affect problem behaviour, social and emotional difficulties and how the kindergarten and school can work to prevent and alleviate such difficulties. It will be based on a systematic approach to the subject area that also includes the perspective of the individual.  The student gains competence that is relevant in work with adapted teaching and special education measures. The subject will address the importance of promoting a good psychosocial learning environment, where the individual child may experience security and social acceptance. Students will gain insight into professional ethical issues related to work with problem behaviour in the kindergarten and school.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

 The student: 

  • Has knowledge of various research-based programmes to tackle problem behaviour and bullyin
  • Has knowledge of social and emotional difficulties                                                                      
  • Has knowledge on the kindergarten and school as a system and the surrounding support system  
  • Has knowledge on management, relationships, communication and cooperation with parents and various collaborating entities                                                                                                              
  • Has knowledge on failure of care and children in grief and crisis

Skills                                                                                                                                                                         The student:

  • Can apply academic knowledge to practical and theoretical issues and make reasoned choices
  • Can find, assess and refer to information and subject matter, and present this such that it illuminates an issue
  • Can provide advice and guidance to colleagues and parents

General competence

 The student:

  • Has insight into academic and professional ethical issues related to work with problem behaviour in kindergarten and school at the individual and system level
  • Can exchange opinions and experiences based on knowledge of problem behaviour, and by way of this contribute to developing good practice
  • Can take disciplinary responsibility for planning, implementing and assessing special education schemes
  • Understands links between relevant research and opportunities in educational practice
