Course description for academic year 2018/2019
Contents and structure
The bachelor's thesis must be profession-oriented and build on previous content in the programme. In the bachelor's thesis and associated supervision, candidates shall conduct R&D activities on issues related to a topic of their choice in an area of knowledge that is relevant to kindergartens. The bachelor's thesis shall help the kindergarten teacher become aware of their professional identity and the role of R&D activities in the development of the kindergarten field in general.
The bachelor's thesis is an individual piece of work, but on arrangement with the subject teacher two students may be allowed to write a thesis together.
Academic content:
- Mandatory methodology course
- Theoretical specialisation in literature and R&D activities related to the chosen research question within an area of the student's choice
- Supervised research linked to the chosen research question within an area of the student's choice
- Theme days related to the bachelor's thesis
Learning Outcome
- Has knowledge of the philosophy of science and methods
- Has knowledge of selected central academic issues pertaining to kindergartens, R&D and theory within the selected knowledge area
- Has knowledge of relevant tools and research methods within the selected knowledge area
- Has knowledge about how R&D activities within selected knowledge area can be performed in kindergartens
- Is able to keep abreast of developments in the field through others' R&D publications and to use this knowledge as a basis for their own professional practice
- Is able to formulate and delimit issues that are relevant to the work in kindergartens
- Is able to find answers to problems and issues through their own research
- Masters the relevant professional tools, research methods and forms of expression
- Has developed insight into relevant issues related to the chosen area of knowledge
- Has insight into ethical aspects of conducting R&D activities
- Is able to analytically and critically assess R&D results with a view to implementation in kindergartens
- Is able to communicate their R&D activities
Entry requirements
All knowledge areas 1st to 3rd year must be passed before the work on the bachelor thesis can begin the 8th semester
Recommended previous knowledge
Completed four semesters of the Kindergarten Teacher Training programme and passed all the examinations in selected knowledge area.
Teaching methods
The student is responsible for acquiring satisfactory competence, including elements not covered in the supervision and guidance. Teaching in this course is mainly supervised, student-led activities related to the work on their bachelor's thesis and teaching.
Compulsory learning activities
1. Approved application to the bachelor's programme
2. Approved methodology course, 80% attendance
3. Approved assignments set by the supervisor
