Course description for academic year 2019/2020
Contents and structure
The thesis deals with problems connected to the field of economics and business administration within accounting. The thesis should primarily be directed towards practical problems or challenges in companies or public institutions.
Learning Outcome
Knowledge
The student:
- Has broad knowledge about central themes, theories, problems, processes, tools, and methods within fields in economics and business administration.
- Can utilize a critical understanding of knowledge within fields in economics and business administration.
- Can utilize her/his knowledge in a methodological report on a specific academic issue.
Skills
The student:
- Can further develop and apply the knowledge she/he has acquired in the the form of a practical problem, or through challenges in companies and/or public institutions.
- Is able to update knowledge she/he has already acquired and gather relevant research and development materials.
- Can apply theories in a wider perspective.
- Has mastered relevant academic tools, techniques, and forms of expression.
General competence
The student:
- Has developed an insight into relevant problems within fields in economics and business administration.
- Can plan and carry out the corresponding project.
- Is able to convey the thesis' problem(s), theories, and results, both in writing and orally.
Entry requirements
A minimum of 100 ECTS credits must be completed from economics and business administration courses before beginning to write the thesis in the 5th semester as well as passed the course ØKB2124 Methods for Social Science (or similar)

Passed all mandatory 1. and 2. year subjects
Teaching methods
The students start working with the bachelor thesis in august in the fall semester prior to delivering the theses the following spring. Mandatory seminars and workshops.
The students are encouraged to do their thesis work in groups of 3- 4 people. The students will receive advising as needed. Before beginning, the advisor must approve the thesis' research question.
The students are encouraged to explore the possibility of doing their thesis together with students from the engineering or maritime study programs.

Assessment
Project, 100%
Grades A-F
The evaluation is based on the written thesis, an oral presentation, and an oral examination. The grade is a collective evaluation of both the written and oral performance.
In cases where several candidates jointly submit a thesis, all of the candidates must participate in the oral presentation and examination. They will all receive the same collective grade.
