Contents and structure
The course is a response to some of the changes The Coordination Reform entails for the municipal health service vis-à-vis the frail elderly.
The study is based on relevant and practice-related patient stories from the municipal health service. Emphasis will be placed on acquisition of information competence in health services to the elderly.
Learning Outcome
Knowledge:
The Candidate
- has special knowledge of pathophysiological processes in cases of failure/illness/trauma pertaining to the heart, lung, kidney and circulatory system of the elderly
- has knowledge of the significance of nutrition, liquids and electrolyte balance regarding the elderly and severe illness
- has knowledge of different forms of pain therapy
- has knowledge of The Coordination Reform and its consequences
Skills:
The Candidate
- is able to identify and discuss ethical challenges in clinical practice involving elderly with critical failure of vital functions
- employs relevant methods in identifying, interpreting and assessing the patient¿s health status, clinical problems, illness, reactions and needs
- is able to identify and analyse signs and symptoms on pathophysiological processes in clinical situations
- is able to plan and implement advanced nursing and delegated medical treatment to patients with failure/illness/trauma pertaining to the heart, lung, kidney and circulatory system in a justifiable and considerate manner
- is able to employ present medical technology equipment
- is able to acquire and utilise knowledge in her workplace
General Competence:
The Candidate
- possesses an analytical approach to her own practice and further development of her own competence pertaining to the elderly with critical failure in vital functions
- is able to cooperate in a practical manner with her own as well as other health professional occupations within her own organisation, and also interdisciplinary in term of service levels
- imparts professional evaluations and problems to colleagues and others
- develops and promotes information competence in her workplace environment
- is able to manage and coordinate activities aimed at patients and ensures sound patient trajectories in her own unit and interdisciplinary in terms of service levels
- is able to contribute to new thinking and innovation processes in clinical practice

Teaching methods
Tutorials, instruction, simulation, self-tuition.
Part-time education with assemblies at campus Haugesund and Stord. The study is also based on obligatory communication on the Net and a significant individual effort between assemblies.
Instruction may take place during the evening.
Compulsory learning activities
70% attendance
Group assignment - producing a tool for the work place.
