ING2036 Systematic health, environment and safety considerations
Course description for academic year 2019/2020
Contents and structure
Internal control regulations and relevant governing laws, quality assurance systems and an introduction to quality assurance management (responsibility/commando line, surveying, deviation adaptation, revision). Quality assurance and environmental standards (EMAS, ISO, ISM). An introduction to factors that affect the work environment; external environment, waste management problems and life-cycle analysis.

The student
- Can explain relevant regulations, quality systems, quality management and issues related to these. Solution processes, tools and methods in the field of systematic HMS (health, environment, safety) work.
- Knows the state of the art in the field.
- Can refresh his knowledge of methods and regulations in the field.
- Has knowledge concerning the development of the subject, traditions, character and position in society.

The student
- Can apply knowledge and relevant results from research and development to solve practical and theoretical problems, can develop quality control systems and explain the choice.
- Can assess practical experience and adjust under guidance.
- Find, consider and refer to information and expertise and is able to identify a problem.
- Know the relevant terminology, signs and tools.
General qualification:
The student:
- Can solve relevant and ethical issues such as absolute privacy issues relatet to the work, relation management and employee, environmental aspects.
- Can plan and execute several tasks and projects, alone and in groups, regarding ethical requirements and guidelines
- Can provide knowledge related to the subject, verbally, written and multimedia based.
- Can exchange opinions and experiences. Practical skills are a result of teamwork and company visits.
- Can explain creative thinking and innovation processes.

Teaching methods
Lectures, group and assignment work. The assignment projects are arranged to suit the various study courses. As an example: assignments are related to maritime, offshore and public enterprises or to production or processing businesses.

Assessment
Part 1: Project, accounts for 50 % on the final mark.
Part 2: Written exam, 4 hours, accounts for 50 % on the final mark.
Both parts must be passed.
Grade: A - E / passed; F / failed.
