MOØ225 Entrepreneurship Theory in a Regional Context

Course description for academic year 2019/2020

Contents and structure

The course introduces issues of practical and contextual relevance to entrepreneurial processes. The main regional industries provide the focus of the course. The entrepreneurial activity (start-ups/business cases) in these industries is presented and analyzed in terms of historical development, business models, product development, market opportunities, and sales strategies.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

After finishing the course the student:

  • has indebt knowledge about different innovationprocesses and entrepreneurship in different industries
  • has insight into diverse business cultures in different industries
  • understands the most important challenges of commercialization processes in different industries

Skills

After finishing the course the student:

  • is able to identify important challenges in start-ups and businesses in different industries
  • is able to connect theory of entrepreneurship and innovation processes to these challenges
  • is able to suggest solutions to the problems identified and take action based on these suggestions

Competence

After finishing the course the student:

  • is able to critically reflect over the challenges related to start-ups and businesses more generally in different industries
  • to reflect ethically about the entrepreneurial and innovation process
  • to transfer knowledge form one contextual setting to others

Teaching methods

Lectures and seminars once a week during the afternoon/evening in parallel with the internship course (MOØ226), case presentation by guest lectures, case discussions and student presentations.

Compulsory learning activities

  • Participation in the afternoon seminars

Mandatory assignments are valid in the examination semester and 3 following semesters.

Assessment

Individual oral examination. Grading scale is A-F where F is fail.
