MOØ226 Entrepreneurship in practice - Internship in Start-ups
Course description for academic year 2019/2020
Contents and structure
The main learning activity in this course is a ten weeks full time internship period in a start-up business or an innovation project in a more established company. The course is given in close collaboration with regional incubators and the start-up companies located in the incubator. The students will gain first-hand start-up and innovation experience. The students will be exposed to different environments and different levels of stress to give a realistic understanding of the work involved in start-ups and innovation processes. The students have to go through an intensive recruiting process with company presentations and job interviews where they have to negotiate with the internship companies.

Knowledge
After finishing the course the student:
- has advanced knowledge about business incubation and innovationprocesses
- has insight into the process of commercialization of products and services (technology)
- understands the challenges in the start-up phase of new and established businesses
Skills
After finishing the course the student:
- is able to support the development of new and existing businesses
- is able to handle differentiated challenges and subjects related to the start-up phase and during innovation projects
- to priorities between different needs and objectives within a limited scope of time and resources
Competence
After finishing the course the student:
- is able to be analytical and reflect critically about the strategy, business model and business plan in start-up companies and existing businesses
- to collaborate in a team to develop a start-up business or innovationprocesses
- to transfer theoretical knowledge into practical action

Teaching methods
The course will be carried out through a 10 week full-time internship period. A business incubator provides the context of the learning process. The start-up businesses located in the incubator or the selected company will be the unit in which the internship takes place.
Compulsory learning activities
Compulsory attendance of at least 80 % of the internship period
Mandatory assignments are valid the examination semester and 3 following semesters.
Assessment
One individual reflexive report from the internship period.
Grading scale is A-F where F is fail.
The report can be written in Norwegian or English.
