SYKHB1032 Nosology and Pharmacology with focus on Somatic Health Care
Course description for academic year 2019/2020
Contents and structure
In this course the student will acquire knowledge and skills in nosology, pathology and pharmacology in relation to illnesses requiring medical treatment and/or surgery. These are important complementary subjects and enable the student to perform justifiable nursing to patients.

Teaching may take place during the afternoon/evening.
Learning Outcome
In Nosology:
Knowledge
The Student:
- Has knowledge of pathological processes in the body.
- Has knowledge of diagnostics and treatment of illnesses.
- Has knowledge of causes, symptoms, treatment and prognosis within medical diagnoses.
- Has knowledge of surgery, various forms of anaesthesia and risk of complications.
- Has knowledge of treatment in cases of injuries and accidents.
- Has knowledge of diseases related to pregnancy and labour.
Skills:
The Student:
- Is capable of using knowledge from medical sciences and make professionally reasoned choices.
In Pharmacology:
Knowledge
The Student:
- Has knowledge of the indication of various groups of medicaments for use, effect and side effects.
- Has knowledge of interactions and consequences of misuse.
- Has knowledge of precautions for preventing the development of addiction.
Skills:
The Student:
- Is able to account for the effect and side effects of medicamental treatment.
- Is able to implement security procedures when handling drugs and giving medicamental treatment.
- Is able to use guidelines and recommendations for the handling of medicaments.
General Competence (nosology and pharmacology applicable):
The Student:
- Is able to make use of medical terminology.
- Has the necessary insight into nosology, pathophysiology and pharmacology to practice professionally justifiable nursing.
Entry requirements
Approved compulsory work related to SYKHB/SB1021 and SYKHB/SB1031 from 1st semestre.

Teaching methods
Focus on student active learning methods. The following working methods may be used: compulsory work/assignment, individual and group tutorials, self-tuition, reflection, group work, demonstrations, skills training, simulations, oral presentation, digital learning tools, classmate response, self-evaluation, seminars, research and evidence based teaching, lectures.
Assessment
Graded marks. Written exam, 4 hours.
