Contents and structure

The subject provides an introduction to core themes and perspectives in organizational theory. Central themes and perspectives are goals, strategy, and efficiency in organizations, organizational structure, organizational culture, power and conflicts, organizations and surroundings, motivation and performance, communication, decision-making processes, learning and innovation, management and change in organizations.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

When completing the course the student will have broad knowledge about concepts and theories related to:

  • value creation and the achievement of goals.
  • different organizational forms and structures
  • the relationship between individuals, organizations and the society
  • culture, power and conflicts within organizations.
  • communication- and decision processes in organizations
  • learning, inovation and change in organizations
  • leadership and management of organizations
  • ethics and societal responsibility of organizations

Skills:

When completing the course the student can apply knowlede and:

  • use analytical tools to analyze leader's scope of action in an organization
  • describe and discuss different dilemmas that emerge in modern organizations and design measures to cope with these dilemmas
  • design measures to improve the effectivenes and goal achiebvements of organizations
