Contents
This course focuses on an in-depth study of the didactic, aesthetic and cultural characteristics of music as an academic discipline and the relationship of this discipline to relevant national and international research and methodological issues, aesthetic and creative learning processes, music as an academic discipline and an art, the theory of aesthetics, culture, learning and development, and technology. Reflection based on research literature and the student's own field work is an important part of the course.
The course will focus on the following topics:
· Basic analysis of different didactic texts and artefacts
· Music-didactic theory and practice, cultural theory and aesthetics
· Reflection on research methodologies and field work
· Study of musical performance practices
· Aesthetic production
Learning Outcome
Knowledge
· has advanced knowledge of cultural theory, aesthetic theory, theories of creative and aesthetic learning processes and fundamental issues related to this subject area
· has in-depth knowledge of musical performance practices and recent research on this and other core parts of the discipline
· has specialised knowledge of arts-informed approaches to research and development work
· has in-depth knowledge of different aspects of scientific, artistic and aesthetic argumentation, reflection and theory development associated with music as a discipline
Skills
· is able to use and critically assess practical research work linked to empirical data collection
· is able to analyse academic issues based on the subject area's history, traditions, distinctive nature and place in society
· is able to analyse and evaluate learning processes within aesthetic production in the field of music and collaborate with others in such processes
· is able to chart and evaluate research and development issues that have been raised and which should be raised within the relevant areas for the student's master's work
· is able to communicate extensive independent work and masters the forms of expressions associated with the subject area

Teaching methods
Teaching and work forms
The master programme is organized through seminars and eLearning activities. The course includes lectures and discussions, supervision, online discussions, online resources and work on portfolio projects. Subject teachers and students will collaborate at general sessions and via the Canvas learning platform. Course requirements will be included in the work on the subject.
The candidates are expected to have access to a computer, microphone, headphones, webcam and their own musical instrument.
