MASIKT-DIG Digital tools in education and training

Course description for academic year 2020/2021

Contents and structure

The course aims to give knowledge and an insight into different categories of digital tools for teaching and learning - and the learning theories which support this. An obvious consequence will be to study the development through the lasts decades, both technological, theoretical and political.

 

The following issues are outlined:

  • digital competency/21st century learning
  • ICT and learning theory
  • ICT in plans and in all subjects
  • digital didactics
  • Web 2.0 and PLN
  • digital learningresources
  • e-learning

Learning Outcome

Knowledge

The student

  • has advanced knowledge about the term digital competency
  • has thorough knowledge about relevant theoretical perspectives related to ICT and classrom practice
  • has a specialized understanding of and a reflecting attitude towards sorts of digital learning materials
  • has advanced knowledge about categories of digital tools
  • has a specialized understanding about new perspectives in educational planning in technology enriched environments
  • has thorough knowledge about practical examples representing use of digital tools and learning resources
  • can analyze the actions and role of the net-teacher and net-student in an e-learning environment
  • has broad knowledge about central issues, theories, problems, processes, tools and methods in the subject area

Skills

The student

  • can use ICT and the Internet to vary, actualize and improve professional teaching- and developmental work in an independent manner
  • can analyze and reflect upon digital competence requirements for pupils, teachers and educational institutions
  • can describe, reflect upon and assess how form, content and quality in teaching and learning are influenced by ICT
  • can discuss the use of digital tools and consider different theories and researchfindings from this special field
  • can find, value and refer to good examples where ICT is integrated in subjects
  • can choose, organize and adjust a personal learning environment independently
  • can apply professional knowledge and relevant findings from research and developmental work into practical and theoretical problems
  • can use relevant digital tools for teaching/learning
  • can reflect on his own teaching where digital tools were used

General Qualifications

The student

  • can keep himself updated and critically reflect upon his own practicebased on researchfindings
  • can reflect critically on problems related to the interaction between teaching, subjects and ICT
  • can work scientific and independently, alone and together with others to identify, analyse and solve problems related to the educational use of digital tools
  • can exchange points of view and experiences from the subject area digitally and through this contribute to innovation, knowledgedevelopment and good practice

Teaching methods

The course contains lectures, supervision, net discussions, net based resources and work with portfolio elements. Lecturers and students will collaborate and communicate through a learning managment system. Compulsory work is included in the course.

Compulsory learning activities

Mandatory attendance at start meeting and netmeetings (80 %) and participation in digital discussion forums.

Assessment

Portfolio assessment: A collection of verifiable work produced during a limited period. The portfolio is given an overall grade. Information about submission and assessment of portfolio items is presented before the start of classes.
