Contents and structure

The subject has the following main components: Basic education in performance, listening and creative activities, composition and arranging and topics in music history. Teaching will be both practical and theoretical, and will provide a broad introduction to musical and didactic disciplines. The goal is to locate the music subject in its cultural and societal contexts. The course will include an excursion to the Ole Bull Akademiet at Voss. The course is free, however, students must pay for meals (approx. 700,-) and travel.

• Arranging and composing
• Music-making and creative work in classroom and relational contexts
• Norwegian folk music, song and dance
• Selected topics of music history
• Didactics
• Music notation, writing processes, literature and study techniques

Practical information:

Students must anticipate expenses related to the compulsory excursion, 700Nkr + travel expences.

• Dance, play and sing selected examples from Norwegian folk music
• Reflect on their own role in various musical and didactic processes and contexts
• Score their own arrangements and facilitate music for use in various arenas
• Use their principal instrument in connection with music activities
• Lead and instruct song, ensemble play and dance processes with fellow students
• Facilitate music education and development for people with different aptitudes and backgrounds

General competence:

• Can analytically and critically assess the role of music as a societal phenomenon
• Can communicate about and reflect upon issues associated with music and musical learning
• Can initiate, motivate and organise music activities in various arenas
