BCA401D Artistic Expression and Practice 1 - Dance Didactics
Course description for academic year 2021/2022
Contents and structure
This subject informs of Dance Didactics: The Teaching methods, theories and practice in dance in general. Through this course you gain insight into and experience of using dance and movement, working with children, young persons and/or other amateurs. Performance, directing, teaching and tutoring skills are emphasized.
The study is open for exchange students.
Learning Outcome
Knowledge
The student:
- Will know of basic teaching methods and didactics in dance
- Will know of music analysis for use in teaching dance-work
- Will know how dance involves children, young persons and/or amateurs
- Will know strategies for presenting and performing simple danceshapes
Skills
The student:
- Can practice and perform general principles of dance-didactics
- Can organize and teach simple dances and dance-shapes, involving children, young persons and/or other amateurs
- Can plan and organize the use of dance and movement involving children, young persons and/or other amateurs
General competence
The student:
- Understands, can implement and instruct the use of simple dance-elements and movement-work in cultural projects for children, young persons and/or other amateurs
Entry requirements
General Competency
Norwegian and/or English fluently, oral and written
Recommended previous knowledge
Experience of physical work, such as dance, physical education, sports and/or experience with other body-cultures. Experience with Drama. Experience with Music.
Teaching methods
Practical work with the use of dance and movement activity, lectures, tutorials, groupcollaborations and written assignments
Field- and practice work with amateurs as participants.
Compulsory learning activities
- Active participation is expected, and compulsory attendance is a requirement for parts of this course. Which parts this is will be presented in the plan for each semester.
- The student is expected to actively engage in own learning
- Active engagement in practical workshops, lectures, group-collaborations and written assignments
- Field- and practice work including amateurs participating
- Written assignments
Assessment
PART 1 - Practical task solution, with the use of creative dance - exam in groupform and written reflection note on deadline. Weighting 60%.
PART 2 - Oral examination in groupform, directly after completion of practical exam. Weighing 40%
Grading scale: A - F
Examination support material
All printed and written material allowed, including video-material from internet.
Technical equipment such as light- and sound for stage, film and/or video, camera-work
