BYG102 Statistics and Land Surveying
Course description for academic year 2021/2022
Contents and structure
This course has two parts. In the land surveying part, the students will learn the principles of surveying. The student will learn about the connection between the physical earth and it's mapping as a basis for calculation of coordinates. The student will further get insight into both traditional, as well as modern, ways of capturing data, as a basis for digital map bases, terrain- and building-models. The statistics part will give the student the broad introduction to probability calculation, and to statistical method, which is needed by engineering students and professional engineers. This part is connected to, but not limited to, land surveying.
Land surveying:
Units and reference systems, rectangular and polar coordinates, total stations, polar surveying and stakeout, trigonometric height measurement, reduction to the mapping plane, levelling, error propagation, adjustment computation - least squares adjustment, satellite surveying (GNSS), laserscanning, surveying for construction, survey planning, use of copmutational software, documentation and evaluation of results.
Statistics:
Probability calculation and discrete/continuous probability distributions. Hypotheses-testing, analysis of variance and calculation of confidence intervals. Statistical process control. Correlation, simple linear regression. Non-parameter methods.
