The course deals with advanced topics in Power Electronics in topics:

  • Power semiconductors, power diodes, power transistors, power MOSFETs, thyristors, gate turn-off thyristors, insulated gate bipolar transistors, Sic components, etc.
  • Snubbere
  • Driver circuits
  • Cooling system
  • Magnetic Components
  • Applications of Power Electronics

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

After completing the course, the candidate should:

  • master the semiconductor theory for power semiconductors.
  • understand the structure of power electronic components, snubs, driver circuits.
  • Know how to design cooling system and magnetic components for power electronic converters.

Skills:

After completing the course, the candidate should be able to design, construct and optimize the power electronic converters.

General competence:

The candidate should have expertise in the development of power electronic converters.

Entry requirements

Complete bachelor study in Electric Power Engineering.

Recommended previous knowledge

Knowlege in control systems, Electronic, circuit theory, etc.

ELE119 Power Electronics or similar.

Teaching methods

Lectures, homework, self-study and mini project.

Compulsory learning activities

3 homework and mini project must be approved for taking the exam.

The approved obligatories will be valid for three semesters.

Assessment

Oral exam. Grading scale is A-F where F is fail.
