Course description for academic year 2021/2022
Contents and structure
To be attractive, today's companies must constantly innovate and create new strategic opportunities. "Big companies need to innovate or die. The question is how" (The corporate start up 2017). This course will give you theoretical knowledge and insight into what innovation and strategy are, as well as how these work together to create value. You will learn different theories about innovation and strategy. You will also acquire practical tools for analyzes around questions such as: How to build innovation capacity and (to) become innovative. What kind of resources are needed? What kind of framework can we steer by and what kind of management and activities, culture and structure work in an open innovative landscape? This topic addresses these key issues in the context of established companies.
The course is built around a framework for understanding innovation in companies. The key analysis dimensions are: strategy, human resources, structure, culture and management. You will be introduced to various strategies and tools for analyzing the innovative organization and you will practice applying these to analyze a self-selected company (case). You will also learn about sustainable innovation and sustainable business models as well as innovation and strategy seen in a context of an ever-increasing need for digitalization and digital transformation.
Learning through collaboration is central to the course and you will work with fellow students in teams.

The students
- can assess, identify and apply relevant theories and models for innovation and strategy in innovation work and processes
- can prepare analyzes of key elements in an innovation project, present and collaborate on these
- can plan and carry out an independently delimited project work within innovation and strategy

- has advanced theoretical knowledge and can apply such knowledge to propose solutions to practical problems in innovation and strategy
- can collaborate, communicate and contribute to innovation and innovation in organizations
- has developed a critical approach to understanding and applying models and theories
Entry requirements
Admission to the master's programme in Innovation and management
Teaching methods
The teaching will preferably take place over digital platforms. Digital teaching that includes lectures and presentations, discussions, student presentations, student collaboration, digital learning tools. Learning through collaboration is central to the course. The students will be divided into groups and work together in teams.
Compulsory learning activities
Each team will be responsible for presentations and submissions. There will be two group submissions with assessment approved / not approved. Both submissions must be approved before you can sit for the exam.
Assessment
Individual written school examination counts 100% of the grade (letter grade A-F).
