BCA1050 Artistic Community Arts Bachelor Project

Course description for academic year 2022/2023

Contents and structure

This study includes the BACHELOR EXAM work. This includes FIELD work and PRACTICE, and the experiences incorporated and stabilized in a final EXAM project. The student finishes the project in practical forms, and in academically writing on and documenting the project. 

Participation requires year 1 + 2 completed with passed exams.

Knowledge

The student has

  • Comprehensive knowledge of art in context 
  • Knowledge of project management and implementation
  • Knowledge of relevant research methods and theories of science related to artistic development, creative subjects and for activities as a community artist. 
  • Knowledge of art-based approaches to activities within a community which promote personal growth centred around artistic activities 
  • Knowledge of different methods of literature search and of academic writing

Skills 

The student can 

  • Reflect on own professional practice 
  • Create and customize a Community Arts activities 
  • Present different theoretical perspectives from the field of Community Arts 

General competence 

The student: 

  • Shows knowledge of the connection between creative practices and performance activities in their chosen artsubject (dance)
  • Is able to plan, implement, evaluate and critically reflect on own community arts practice 
  • Can reflect inter-disciplinarily in the community arts profession and in practice 
  • Is able to plan, manage and finalize an individual artistic practical and/or academic empirical work that include a discussion, and that also meets academic requirements for source criticism. 

Entry requirements

Completed all modules in 1st and 2nd year and with passed examresults

Other experience of projectbased cultural and community related work

Teaching methods

The teaching and working methods in this course alternate between lectures, project- and group work, presentations and supervision.

The student is expected to engage in his or her own independent practical project work, writing and supervision, showing individual motivation, dicipline and drive. 

Compulsory learning activities

Completion of mandatory assignments, written, oral, and practical, which is specified in the semester plan at start-up.

Active participation is expected, and compulsory attendance is a requirement for parts of this course. Which parts will be presented in the plan for each semester.  

Formal attendance no less than 80% presence. 

Assessment

Portfolio assessment and Practical exam.  

The individual student-projects structure is negotiated aforehand with the student and his/her supervision team and will be reflected in the assessment and form of examination. 

  • Practical exam: Creative and artistic practical community work with documentation and oral presentation. Documentation can include written as well as audio-visual material.   
  • Portfolio assessment: Presentation and documentation of students community work project. The portfolio must reflect academic knowledge and standards connecting to documentation and research. 
  • Weighting: Practical exam 40%, Portfolio 60%. 
  • Grades: Scale A-F

Documentation tools such as digital, film/video documention, light and/or soundtechnical equipment.
