ØAL114 Transport, Transport law and Delivery Terms
Course description for academic year 2022/2023
Contents and structure
The course gives the students a basic introduction to the different modes of transport, carriers, cargo units, etc. that are at the heart of logistics. It provides the understanding the role of distribution and identifying the potential designs for networks. It helps in establishing framework related to facility location and capacity allocation while designing networks. Current issues such as green / sustainable transport is discussed in context of CSR as concept of green transport which is becoming a key priority for the transport planner while planning to serve customers in environmentally friendly.
The course will provide the students with in-depth knowledge of the national and international delivery/trade terms used in a trade transaction and which are the result of the signed purchase agreements that form the basis of the actual trade transaction and its associated logistics. Further in-depth knowledge of the practices and legal rules that the parties must adhere to as a result of the delivery terms entered into, with a special focus on Incoterms, forwarder, sea, land and air transport as well as Cargo Insurance.
Transport law
Focus on legal relationship between cargo owner (shipper), and operators: Forwarder (NSAB 2015), Sea Transport (Marine Act/Hague Visby), Road Transport (Road Haulier Act/CMR), Air Transport (Aviation Act) and Cargo Insurance.
Delivery Terms (Incoterrns® and US Terms).
The course will provide the students with in-depth knowledge of the national and international delivery/trade terms used in a trade transaction and which are the result of the signed purchase agreements that form the basis of the actual trade transaction and its associated logistics.

Entry requirements
None
Teaching methods
Classroom teaching combined with group work and guest lectures. The students write 2 group-based semester assignments:
1. Self selected latest transport issues, challenges and trends
2. Transport Law including delivery terms, primarily in a self-selected company, alternatively and in the absence of a suitable company, as a purely theoretical assignment.

Assessment
Part exam with two parts:
1) Two group assignment (20% each of final grade). The topic and deadlines for the group assignment are announced at the start of the semester. The result of the group-based semester assignment is valid in the exam semester and 3 consecutive semesters.
2) Written school exam, 4 hours (60% of final grade). The exam can be held on the digital exam system.
Grading scale A-F, where F does not correspond to passing.
Both parts must be passed to get a grade in the course.
If there are fewer than 5 candidates enrolled in the course in a new or postponed examination, the written examination may be replaced by an oral examination.
Examination support material
All calculators are allowed, with the following exceptions/limitations
- the calculator can not communicate
- the calculator can not handle symbolic mathmatical expressions
- the calculator will not be connected to electricity
- the calculator can not make noise in the exam fascilities
