PL491 Bachelor thesis in Landscape planning with landscape Architecture
Course description for academic year 2023/2024
Contents and structure
The thesis can focus on topics within natural science or planning. The thesis will be chosen together with the supervisor, and may be realated to projects and research which the department is involved in, or to co-operations with external collaborators.
Learning Outcome
Knowledge
- Students will develop an understanding of the most important phases of completing an independent project work.
- Students will have knowledge of what characterises scientific literature.
Skills
- Students will be able to complete an independent project work.
- Students will be able to carry out data collection.
- Students will know how to conduct analysis and draw scientific conclusions.
- Students will be able to presents an independent piece of work both in writing and orally using necessary techniques.
- Students will be able to find scientific literature of high quality in national and international databases.
- Students will be able to use references, apply citation techniques and conduct source criticism.
General competence
After successfully completing the bachelor thesis the candidate can carry out independent assessments and evaluate important environmental, landscape ecological, planning and management themes. The candidate will know how to define aims and objectives, accurately describe methods, find and utilise scientific literature in a correct manner, including source criticism, and will be able to provide a balanced presentation of the chosen topic. The candidate will know how to structure and present a scientific report and can communicate the main points of a scientific report in a clear and understandable way (writen and orally).

Recommended previous knowledge
The student should have passed 90 ECTS of the BSc programme in Landscape planning with landscape architecture or equivalent.
Teaching methods
Independent student work under supervision of a teacher. Preferably 2 - 3 students work together on a thesis.
Proposals for bachelor theses will be presented to the students at a meeting, and the students will have a deadline to make a request about what thesis they want. The tasks are distributed according to an overall assessment
Compulsory learning activities
Participation in a Bachelor seminar in January.
Oral group presentation of the thesis before delivery deadline.
Assessment
Bachelorthesis.
Grading: A-F.
