BØA117 Financial Accounting and analysis

Contents and structure

The course is based on BØA113 Introduction to Business Economics and Accounting with accounting or similar courses. The course will provide a good insight into the structure of the financial statements and the framework conditions. The course will also provide the necessary knowledge to handle central accounting measurement problems and to prepare cash flow analysis. Based on the financial statements, it is shown how the company's profitability, liquidity and financing can be further analyzed.

• Basic accounting principles and good accounting practice
• Accounting Act's valuation rules for assets and liabilities
• Accounting for taxes in companies with Limited liability
• Equity and disposal of annual results
• Preparation of cash flow statement
• Financial statement analysis

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

The student must upon competion

• have knowledge of the structure and framework conditions of the financial accounts
• have knowledge of key accounting principles and assessment rules
• have knowledge of the most central differences betveen accounting of tax rules
• have knowledge of non-financial reporting, inkluding sustainability reporting
• understand the connection between liquidity change (cash flow statement), value creation (income statement) and acquisition and use of capital (balance sheet)
• know key figures within profitability, liquidity, finansing and solvency

Skills

The student must upon competion

• be able to prepare profit and loss accounts and balance sheets
• be able to handle central measurement and assessment problems
• be able to set up a simple tax calculation
• be able to make annual settlement postings and disposition of the result
• be able to prapera a cash flow statement
• be able to calculate and assess key figures based on annual accounts for analysis purposes

General competence

The student must upon competion

• have a basic understanding of the praparation and analysis of annual accounts
• have a basis for further deepening within the sublect area

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises.

Compulsory learning activities

Two written assignments.. Approved assignments are always valid.

Assessment

Written exam, 5 hour. The exam may be carried through in a digital exam system.
