Course description for academic year 2023/2024

Contents and structure

In practical project management, students work in teams with a project that is carried out over the course of the semester, emphasis is placed on students working on real issues with a stakeholder approach, with a focus on the users. The course aims to strengthen the students' competence and skills when it comes to developing, organizing and managing real projects.

The students get a general introduction to the various phases of projects and teamwork, with an introduction to theory, concepts, methods and tools. The students work with practical challenges where creativity and solution orientation are at the fore. Students develop skills related to project management through the practical application of theory, tools and methods. Emphasis is placed on students being able to discuss and reflect academically. The students will also develop and reflect on their own teamwork skills, as well as practice oral presentations.

Skills:

  • Be able to assess socially useful products and services, systems and solutions, as well as identify ethical dilemmas, social responsibility and sustainability in a project and/or in an organization
  • Be able to convey relevant professional knowledge to various actors who are affected or involved in projects, both in writing, orally and visually
  • Be able to reflect on own professional practice
  • Be able to distinguish between different forms of projects, and choose tools and methods that are appropriate in relation to the nature and objectives of the project.

General competence:

  • Be able to collaborate and reflect on own professional practice, also in teams, as well as adapt this to different types of projects
  • Be able to exchange and convey views and experiences with others within project work and through this contribute to the development of good practice

Teaching methods

Student-active forms of teaching inspired by project-based, problem-based and case-based learning. Presentations, based on an active and dialogue-based learning model, discussion in teams and guidance.

Compulsory learning activities

Two compulsory work requirements that are carried out in teams. Approved work requirement is valid in the exam semester, and in the following semester.

Assessment

Two oral exams which together form the basis for a grade in the course. Each partial exam counts for 50% of the final grade in the subject.The exam is carried out in teams, but the grade after the oral exam can be set individually for the individual team member.

Grade scale A-F, where F corresponds to fail.
