ØAL150 Internship Logistics

Course description for academic year 2023/2024

Contents and structure

Internship combines practical and theoretical work and is carried out individually in collaboration with a business/organisation (private, public or voluntary organisation) where the student has his/her practice. The student is responsible for obtaining an internship. The tasks can be related to daily operations, or the students can be given responsibility for a specific task/a sub-project related to the field of logistics. The mandate for the collaboration must be defined by the client and approved by HVL. The students work independently under the guidance of the client and academic supervisor from the college.

The student must submit a written practical assignment at the end of the spring semester. The report is owned by the student, client (business/organisation) and HVL. Supervisors or others cannot require the student to publish in the library, on the internet or elsewhere, in printed or electronic form, without the candidate's and the client's consent.

Learning Outcome

After completing the course, the student must:

  • be able to work independently and responsibly with good progress, so that assigned tasks can be carried out within given deadlines
  • have good knowledge of the most important operational functions and processes in the business/organization and the interaction between these
  • have an overview of central management and control systems at the client
  • be able to apply theoretical knowledge from the study in a real work situation - and see the connection between theory and practice
  • be able to prepare a professionally good, orderly and effective practice assignment
  • be able to communicate and present a professional work
  • show ability to reflect on own development

The student must work a total of 240 hours/32 days in practice. This corresponds to two days a week throughout the semester, but the student and company are free to agree other combinations.

The mandate for the collaboration must be defined by the client and approved by HVL by the start of the internship period.

The student is expected to work a minimum of 160 hours individually with a report and reflection notes in addition to the internship period outside the company.

The student does not receive payment for the practice.

Compulsory learning activities

Own process for approving internships with letter of application, CV and contract with client according to given guidelines.

Assessment

Written practical assignments (including reflection notes) are graded separately before the corrective oral exam. Both the written and oral part must be passed to pass the course. Censorship is carried out by two sensors, one of which is external.

The submission deadline for the practical assignment is published on Studentweb and via the digital examination system, Wiseflow.

The grade on the practical assignment is recorded in Wiseflow by the examiners and communicated to the student no later than 24 hours before the oral exam.

The final grade on the practical assignment is identical to the grade that appears in the exam report for "adjusting oral" and is also recorded by the examiners in Wiseflow. The final grade is set after the oral exam.

The time and place for the oral exam is stated in Canvas (only for students in the 3rd year with specialization in logistics + year unit in logistics)

The grade on the practical assignment can be adjusted up or down by one grade after the oral exam. Grade scale A-F, where F corresponds to fail.

Failed practical assignment

Students who have failed the practical assignment can submit a new and improved version during the coming semester. Enhanced version can only be delivered once.
