BØA205 Cost Accounting

Contents and structure

The course will provide insight into the use of various models for calculation, operating accounts and budgeting in financial management. The course will further develop the ability to identify relevant income and costs as a basis for business financial decisions.

• Income and cost control.
• Models for the operating accounts.
• Use of normalcost and standardcost distribution.
• Decision-relevant costs and income.
• Alternative to traditional cost analysis, including activity-based calculation (ABC-calculation).
• Budgeting.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

The student:

• can explain various principles for cost distribution and product calculation.
• know the budget as a management tool, explain how the budget is organized and implemented.
• has acquired a good understanding of the scope of costs and a good understanding of the variability of costs.

Recommended prior knowledge: Introduction to business economics and accounting (Innføring i bedriftsøkonomi og regnskap).

Teaching methods

Lectures and seminars working with exceises.

Compulsory learning activities

Two written work requirements to be solved individually or in groups.

Approved work requirements are always valid.

Assessment

Written exam, 4 hours.

Grade scale A-F, where F corresponds to fail.
