FHSUF300 The Norwegian Health Care System in an International Perspective

Contents and structure

The course focuses on the Norwegian health care system and the ethical conduct of the professional practice. The objective of this course is to gain insight into the Norwegian health care system and in relation to the health care systems of the countries of the incoming students. The course covers the following topics:

• Introduction to the Norwegian health care system in general and especially for the specific bachelor programme.
• Norwegian traditions and professional ethics in the discipline.
• The dynamic relation between professional practice and its context.
• Impact of political priorities on health care services.

A student who has completed the course should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

• has basic knowledge of the professional health care system in Norway.
• has basic insight into educational programme of the specific discipline and the professional role of the discipline in Norway.

• can reflect on how context influences professional practices.
• can compare and analyse differences between professional practices in different countries.

General competence: The student...

• can exchange views and experiences about differences between the health and education system in Norway and the students’ home country.
• is familiar with the Norwegian health care system, organisation and legislation.
• has insight into the impact of political priorities on health care services.

Entry requirements

The course is open only for students from partner institutions with which the study program has an agreement.

Teaching methods

The course includes digital learning resources, activities, and seminar. Seminar will be carried out with the Norwegian students. Learning methods which actively involve the students will be applied, in addition to digital learning resources.

Assessment

Oral exam

Individually or in pairs, in a seminar where the Norwegian students are present. Two days before the exam, the students submit the presentation (Canvas).15 minutes presentation (PowerPoint, poster, video) related to the learning outcomes.

Grading scale

The grading scale used is Passed / Not passed.

New exam

Students who fail (Not passed) will have a new oral exam.
