Contents and structure

The subject covers the most common components and measurements found in process monitoring and control.

Contents

• Introduction to the content of measurement systems in industrial processes, including process control and data acquisition
• P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) with the relations between measurements and process equipment such as pumps and valves
• An overview of common processes and their corresponding measurements and instruments, such as pressure, temperature, flow and level (plus instrument functionality)
• Explosion safety and reliability

The content is related to United Nations' sustainability goals number 7, 9 and 12: To obtain clean energy, sustainable industrialisation and production, actuation and monitoring based on industrial instrumentation is needed.

The student has an overview of industrial control and supervision.

The student is able to participate in the selection of instrumentation solutions for an industrial process.

The student is able to participate in planning, commissioning and operation of an industrial instrumentation system
