BØA3201 Sustainable economics, environment and wealth

Course description for academic year 2024/2025

Contents and structure

The overall goal of the course is to contribute to attain more knowledge, skills and critical thinking on the issue economical sustainability.

Course content:

  • Economic growth, the environment and sustainability
  • International trade, globalization, environment, and sustainability
  • Distribution of wealth and income
  • Sustainability, environment, and market
  • Environmental economics

The course includes quantitative analyses and mathematical calculations.

Learning Outcome

Knowledge:

You shall:

  • be able to explain key concepts used in analyzes of sustainable economics
  • have knowledge of the link between sustainability and growth & trade
  • know how the market can handle sustainability
  • understand the relationship between government, social capital, and sustainability
  • be able to link environment to sustainability

Skills:

Be able to discuss issues related to economic activity and sustainability.

  • Have insight into economic theories and key economic concepts such as freedom of choice, value creation, sustainability, and growth.
  • be able to identify challenges of choices connected to sustainability
  • apply the economic theory on Norwegian conditions

General competence:

You shall:

  • be able to ask critical questions and gain analytical competence regarding sustainable economics
  • be able to see the link between economics, choices, and sustainability

Entry requirements

At least one introductory course in economics

Recommended previous knowledge

BØA118 Macroeconomics and BØA203 Microeconomics or other equivalent courses.

Teaching methods

Lectures, practice lessons and exercises.

Maximum two written assignments

Assessment

Individual written school exam counts 100% of the grade. Grade scale A-F.
